THIS SATURDAY: IndieSound @ Black Rock Festival on Amherst Street

The IndieSound @ Black Rock festival will take over Amherst Street this Saturday, September 29th, featuring free live music in and around over a dozen local independent shops, restaurants, bars and businesses on Amherst Street in Black Rock.

Music will run from noon to 5pm, including performances by Black Rock Zydeco, Zak Ward, The Screaming Jeans, Coterie of Stern, Sonny Baker, The Larkin Plan, The Folk Faces, Mikel Doktor, Steve Woolsey, Dee Adams, Geno McManus, Jim Whitford & John Martz, Asakivle, Megan Callahan, Blood Thirsty Vegans, Whiskey Reverb and Tom Stahl & the Dangerfields.

The festival will span from Artisan Kitchens & Baths at 200 Amherst Street to Joe's Service Center, on the corner of Amherst Street and Elmwood Avenue. Venues include Artisan Kitchens & Baths, Sportsmen's Tavern, Max Willig Architect, Black Rock Food Center, Artsphere Gallery, 464 Gallery, Quality Bindery Services, the law office of Jennifer P. Stergion, Rohall's Corner, and Joe's Service Center. Other festival highlights include:

The Open Air Autobus (http://greaterbuffalo.blogs.com/openairbuffalo/) will provide shuttle service for festival goers, with stops along Amherst Street, from noon to 5pm.

At 1pm, local historian Mark Goldman will give a tour of historic Black Rock, starting from the Black Rock Kitchen & Bar.

Food trucks, beer tasting from Flying Bison Brewing Company, and an international market sponsored by West Side & Black Rock-Riverside Neighborhood Housing Services will run from noon to 5pm at Artisan Kitchens & Baths.

An "Art Yard" at 464 Gallery will feature live art demonstrations, music and an artisan market.

A "Kids Zone" will be located at the American Legion at 533 Amherst Street.

A finale party at Rohall's Corner, 540 Amherst Street, will feature Andrew J. Reimers and Katie Panfil, with Ann Philippone from 5 to 8pm, with a $5 cover.

IndieSound @ Black Rock is presented by Buffalo First (www.buffalofirst.org) and The Good Neighborhood (www.thegoodneighborhood.com) in association with the Grant-Amherst Business Association. The event's mission is to help residents of Buffalo and Western New York find and connect with locally owned businesses and independent local artists. By connecting indie-conscious people with local businesses, the festival works to strengthen the health of Main Street ecosystems across the region.

The festival's inaugural year featured live musical performances from over forty local musicians in independent businesses bringing several hundred people to the historic Allentown business district.
